By Olusegun HOSEA, 9th June, 2924.
Cultural Christianity are nominal believers who superficially identify themselves as Christians but do not truly adhere to the tenets of the Christian faith as observed by the the Holy Bible Matthew 15:8. The book of 2nd Timothy 3:5, described them as those Christians who wear the label of CHRISTIAN without having any personal relationships or conviction with God.
In the word of God, as said by our Lord Jesus Christ in the book of John 14:6 (King James version )that “Jesus said unto him ,I am the way , the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” This mean that anybody who claimed to be a Christian must follow the ethics and the attributes know by the Lord Jesus Christ of which one of it is truth as expressed in the above Scripture.
Having inter personal relationships with God is another critical role a man need to have if he or she wants to get to the God. Because Jesus has said it that he was the way ,truth and life . Whoever that calls himself a Christian must know the way, the truth and probably have share of the abundant life of Jesus Christ.
Similarly, being a Cultural Christian as Said by Elder Fidelis Ibilabaye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Double portion Parish ,Oda Road Akure, it’s not automatic that you would enjoy all the attributes itemized by the scripture quoted above. He said for the fact that your name is John, Faith or Matthew or your parents is a pastor does not make you a Christian. According to him, as long as you have not having personal relationships with God or being born again, such person is being refered to as Cultural Christianity.
In another, development, Cultural Christianity was considered not to be a true Christianity as there was nothing like that in the days of the early church. They are more social than being a spiritual. As they do rejects the spiritual aspects required to be a Biblical defined Christian (Romans 8:5) Look at the 1st Corinthians 2:14-15 for more details.
The marks of identification of cultural Christianity is the denial of the inspiration of the Scripture or parts of the Bible. You may cross check this from the book of 2 Timothy 3:16 and 2 Peter 1:21 for more details.
They also redefine scriptural truths to accommodate culture – Number 23:19. While also perform enough religious activity to gain a sense of well being without a true devotion to Jesus.- Romance 8:9 . Whatever aspect that alliing with their beliefs are those scriptures they often quote to backup their claim.
The cultural Christianity most a time see protection and blessing as goals to be achieved, rather than by products of a love relationship with God. Mark 12:30. Their beliefs was that whatever wealth they processed or being alive is by their hands work not from God Almighty.
